Nathan's Famous is rolling out the brand's first footlong hot dog, which the longtime QSR's fans got a preview of in April on Nathan's online store where the footlong premiered. This week, however, the company said it's starting to sell the mega-dogs at its physical stores, according to a news release.

"Indulgence isn't a bad thing, especially when it comes to a Nathan's Famous hot dog," James Walker, Nathan's senior vice president, restaurants, said in the release. "Whether you like it plain, or with just a little Nathan's Famous mustard, or you go all out with our world-famous chili cheese dog, a Nathan's Famous hot dog is certainly a treat. We figured, especially given the year we've all had, why not double down on that indulgence and offer twice the taste, because sometimes size does matter."

Three footlong hot dog kits are also available as part of the new menu item, including either 24 of the footlongs with buns, chili, cheddar cheese sauce and fries or 12 or 24 footlong dogs with Sauerkraut and fries. By the way, that foot-long status reflects the hot dog's measurement before it is cooked.

Nathan's, based in Jericho, New York, sold more than 700 million hot dogs last year
