The company's five distributors presented results of the energy efficiency project Energy with Citizenship, aimed at low-income consumers

The five distributors of Neoenergia - Neoenergia Coelba (BA), Neoenergia Pernambuco (PE), Neoenergia Cosern (RN), Neoenergia Brasília (DF) and Neoenergia Elektro (SP and MS) - carried out throughout 2022 the replacement of 842,000 halogen, fluorescent or incandescent lamps by LED models for consumers and institutions of popular communities located in the group's areas of activity. The initiative is part of the Energy with Citizenship project, which promotes energy savings through the change of lamps, bringing benefits such as the reduction of energy bills, better lighting and the creation of a culture of sustainability in low-income regions. The actions are part of the Energy Efficiency Program (PEE), regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL).

"The Energy with Citizenship project is extremely appropriate to help reduce the value of the account, generate energy savings with the change of lamps and promote sustainability actions such as the decarbonization of the planet," says Daniel Sarmento, Neoenergia's Energy Efficiency Supervisor.

In Bahia, Neoenergia Coelba replaced more than 239,000 LED bulbs in low-income consumer homes, and more than 49,000 lamps in 552 institutions in these locations. Neoenergia Pernambuco (PE) exchanged 225,000 equipment in the state, 177,000 in homes and 48,000 in 300 organizations that provide care to the population as health centers and schools.

In São Paulo, Neoenergia Elektro replaced 174,000 LED lamps in total, while Neoenergia Brasília made 81,000 exchanges in the Federal District and Neoenergia Cosern installed 74,000 lamps in Rio Grande do Norte.

The Energy with Citizenship project continues to advance in 2023, with actions scheduled for the city of Mossoró, in Rio Grande do Norte and Ipojuca (PE), where the company performs the replacement of 2,600 halogen, fluorescent or incandescent lamps, in 28 public institutions of the municipality by LED equipment.

The use of LED lamps brings a number of benefits, in addition to generating energy savings. They have a longer service life, lasting approximately 25,000 hours, while fluorescent lamps last 15,000 hours. The technology also causes less environmental impact. The LED has no toxic elements in its composition, unlike fluorescent lamps that have mercury. This substance generates environmentally harmful waste when disposed of irregularly in rivers and landfills.
