Investing in infrastructure and technology in the electricity sector is one of the pillars of Neoenergia to ensure the quality of services to more than 15 million customers throughout Brazil. In the Federal District and Pernambuco, Neoenergia Brasília and Neoenergia Pernambuco, respectively, work with the Big Jumper, equipment that reduces by up to 80% the need for power shutdowns during the execution of maintenance and improvement in the electricity grid. Distributors have used innovation to maintain power supply to consumers in regions affected by the execution of point works that require the shutdown of the network.

"The Big Jumper is part of a series of innovative actions under development by Neoenergia Pernambuco to reduce the amount and duration of interruptions in the supply of electricity in the state. In recent years, we have achieved a significant evolution in these two indicators, reaching the best quality indices in the company's history," said Saulo Cabral, president of Neoenergia Pernambuco.

"The Big Jumper acts as a temporary alternative electrical network that allows customers to be maintained with energy while maintenance and improvement services are performed on the main electricity grid, thus minimizing the shutdown of customers," explains Antônio Carlos Queiroz, Technical Managing Director of Neoenergia Brasília. " Thus, our teams can safely work on improvements and modernization of the federal district's electrical infrastructure," he adds.

Another state-of-the-art technology that will be used by Neoenergia in Brasilia, imported from the United States, are the so-called lasers, intelligent electronic devices that protect the underground networks in which they are inserted. The equipment acts efficiently and with remote control to isolate a defect and avoid the lack of power, in addition to adding reliability and technological update of network protectors.

Neoenergia Brasília and Neoenergia Pernambuco also invest in actions to provide intelligence to the electricity grid. In the first five months of 2022, the Federal District distributor installed 189 re-ligators and, last year, there were 379. In Pernambuco, 223 equipment was installed in the first half of this year and in 2021, there were 314 installations. The re-scans are automated and increase the robustness of the power grid.

In addition, from January to May, Neoenergia Brasília implemented 55 self-healing schemes - an intelligent technological innovation capable of isolating a defect and automatically restoring power supply to disconnected customers in seconds. The action benefited more than 3.3 million people, reducing the number of customers impacted in possible situations of power outages, such as falling tree branches over the grid, and reducing the time of recomposition of the power supply. Neoenergia Pernambuco, on the other hand, implemented 68 self-healing schemes, positively impacting 150,000 customers.

The system identifies the point at which the fault occurred and performs, autonomously, maneuvers isolating the damaged stretch. Within 60 seconds, the defect can be isolated and the service is restored to the largest number of customers, without the need for human intervention. In the first year of Neoenergia Brasília's operations in the federal capital, 83 self-healing schemes were configured.
