The Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK) Nutrition Quiz Competition has been launched in Ogun state with 20 schools participating in stage one of the competition.

The participating schools will be quizzed on topics curated by the Nutrition Society of Nigeria from the N4HK students' manual covering nutrition, healthy hydration, hygiene and physical activities.

Organised by Nestle Nigeria in collaboration with the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Ogun State chapter of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria; the competition is expected to run from March 2nd to 11th, 2020.

Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK) is the company's flagship initiative which aims to help 50 million children globally lead healthier lives by 2030.

In Nigeria, N4HK incorporates a school-based nutrition education programme, which equips children to enable them make better nutrition decisions from an early age to promote a healthier future.

The Nutrition Quiz therefore is a core part of the N4HK programme to enhance recall and retention of lessons learnt by the students.

Commenting on the competition, the Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Nestle Nigeria, Mrs Victoria Uwadoka, said the N4HK schools in Obafemi/Owode, Sagamu, Abeokuta North and Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Areas in Ogun State are competing for the star prize.

'In Nigeria, it is estimated that about 50% of childhood related medical challenges can be traced to nutrition. There is therefore a need to teach children about nutrition from an early age. Nestlé for Healthier Kids is our global flagship initiative which aims to help 50 million children globally lead healthier lives by 2030.

'Through activities like the Nutrition Quiz being launched, we make progress toward our goals of helping children live healthier lives by raising awareness of the benefits of healthy eating and active lifestyles,' she said.

Speaking at the event, the Ogun State Chapter Chairman of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Dr. Seye Onabanjo said, 'Beginning nutrition and health education in early childhood is crucial to developing healthy eating and lifestyle at an early stage which, will promote healthy body weight and reduce the potential burden of disease in adulthood.'
