GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. (AP) _ Newmont Corporation (NEM) on Thursday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $824 million.

On a per-share basis, the Greenwood Village, Colorado-based company said it had profit of $1.02. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $1.06 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 95 cents per share.

The gold and copper miner posted revenue of $3.38 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.83 billion, or $3.51 per share. Revenue was reported as $11.5 billion.

Newmont shares have dropped almost 5% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen nearly 5%. The stock has risen 25% in the last 12 months.
