Janganpa Jukurrpa Possum

1 Young Possum Janganpa

1 young possum Janganpa, travelled from the West to the Granites. He wanted to meet with the others, but the old men told him to go away, we are busy having a meeting. You're not old enough, you have to leave. You don't know enough, you can't be here.

The young possum got sulky. He travelled East, he was angry. He picked up 3 tribes and told them to wait for him near Willowra. He kept travelling a little bit north east and collected another tribe and said wait here. Janganpa then travelled further for 1 more tribe. Then he headed back

to the Granites getting these 5 tribes to travel with him. They travelled to the Granites. They were angry and they flew. They went back to the Granites and fought with the people there. They fought from the Granites to the North East to a big lake (near the Tanami Hwy and Lajamanu Road turn off). Here there was no lake. But at this location they turned into water to become this lake. This Dreamtime Story belongs to Jakamarra, Jupurrurla, Napurrurla and Nakamarra skin. This Dreaming is connected to many other Dreamings.

Reconciliation Australia CEO Statement

Reconciliation Australia commends Newmont on the formal endorsement of its second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Since 2006, RAPs have provided a framework for organisations to leverage their structures and diverse spheres of influence to support the national reconciliation movement.

With over 2.3 million people now either working or studying in an organisation with a RAP, the program's potential for impact is greater than ever. Newmont continues to be part of a strong network of more than 1,100 corporate, government, and not-for- profit organisations that have taken goodwill and transformed it into action.

The four RAP types - Reflect, Innovate, Stretch and Elevate - allow RAP partners to continuously strengthen reconciliation commitments and constantly strive to apply learnings in new ways.

An Innovate RAP is a crucial and rewarding period in an organisation's reconciliation journey. It is a time to build the strong foundations and relationships that ensure sustainable, thoughtful, and impactful RAP outcomes into the future.

An integral part of building these foundations is reflecting on and cataloguing the successes and challenges of previous RAPs. Learnings gained through effort and innovation are invaluable resources that Newmont will continuously draw upon to create RAP commitments rooted in experience and maturity.

These learnings extend to Newmont using the lens of reconciliation to better understand its core business, sphere of influence, and diverse community of staff and stakeholders.

The RAP program's emphasis on relationships, respect, and opportunities gives organisations a framework from which to foster connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples rooted in mutual collaboration and trust.

This Innovate RAP is an opportunity for Newmont to strengthen these relationships, gain crucial experience, and nurture connections that will become the lifeblood of its future RAP commitments. By enabling and empowering staff to contribute to this process, Newmont will ensure shared and cooperative success in the long-term.

Gaining experience and reflecting on pertinent learnings will ensure the sustainability of Newmont's future RAPs and reconciliation initiatives, providing meaningful impact toward Australia's reconciliation journey.

Congratulations Newmont on your second Innovate RAP and I look forward to following your ongoing reconciliation journey.

Message from Newmont Senior Vice President - Australia Region

I am pleased to share with you Newmont's second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan.

This document outlines our commitments to advancing reconciliation, integral to our purpose of 'Creating value and improving lives through sustainable and responsible mining'.

With a history spanning more than a century, Newmont has a long track record of innovation and growth and is proud to be the world's leading gold mining company.

Globally, Newmont operates in eight countries, and recognises the connection between Indigenous Peoples and the land where ever we operate. In 2019, Newmont established the Centre for Indigenous Community Relations to share best practice and promote meaningful engagement between our business and Indigenous peoples.

Here in Australia, we have established working partnerships and legal agreements with the Traditional Owners and local communities where we operate - in Western Australia and Northern Territory. We are committed to continuing to learn and work alongside First Nations people to have an impact.

This RAP will guide us in building on and extending established frameworks already in place. Through the pillars of 'Respect', 'Relationships' and 'Opportunities', we have outlined practical actions within our sphere of influence which we believe help create a more just and equitable society for First Nations people. Sharing and celebrating the rich history and culture of First Nations people, promoting a more inclusive work environment and strengthening the relationships we have with our communities are some of the ways we will contribute to change.

We know there will be challenges on our journey, but we are committed to the process with open hearts and minds.

Thank you for joining us.
