Newmont Corp. said Thursday it expects to produce 6.5 million ounces this year and invest $1.8 billion in capital in its mining projects around the world.

Newmont's production forecast for the year means it expects higher output over the previous two: the miner said it generated about 5.9 million ounces in 2020 and 6.3 million in 2019.

Its forecast is above the 5.9 million ounces the company produced in 2020.

Its production, cost and capital figures assume a price of $1,200 an ounce for gold, Newmont said.

The Nymex front-month gold futures contract was trading at $1,780.30 a troy ounce early Thursday.

The company also laid out some cost estimates for the year, including $260 million for general and administrative expenses; $2.5 billion in depreciation and amortization; and $275 million in interest.
