JUNO BEACH - Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) today named Jarl Thomas (J.T.) Young vice president and general manager, FPL Northwest Florida region.

An almost 40-year veteran in the energy industry, Young served as customer service and marketing general manager of the former Gulf Power before his most recent role as president and CEO of Memphis Light, Gas & Water.

Many in Northwest Florida know Young well for his previous 30-year tenure at Gulf Power and for his spirit of service. He served the community in numerous roles from youth sports coach to an active member of many local boards, including NWFL Fellowship of Christian Athletes, United Way of Escambia County, UWF Foundation, Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce, Baptist Health Care, Cordova Rotary Club and UWF Board of Trustees.

Young has received numerous awards and accolades for his community leadership in Northwest Florida. In 2017, he was named Pensacola Community Leader of the Year. In 2018, Young was honored with the Martin Luther King, Jr. 'Living the Dream' award, and in 2019 Pensacola State College presented him with its Distinguished Alumni Life Achievement award.

J.T. holds a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Florida, an MBA from the University of West Florida and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School General Management Program.
