NextEra Energy Inc. intends to sell $2 billion of equity units.

The clean energy company said Wednesday that each equity unit will be issued at $50 and will include a contract to purchase the company's common stock in the future. The contract will also include a 5% undivided beneficial ownership interest in a NextEra Energy Capital Holdings Inc. debenture due Sept. 1, 2027, to be issued in the principal amount of $1,000.

The holders would be required to complete the stock purchase by Sept. 1, 2025, NextEra said.

NextEra intends to add the estimated $1.94 billion in proceeds to the general funds of its holding company, which is used to fund investments in energy and power projects, and for other general corporate purposes.

Shares fall 2.8% to $86.35 in after-hours trading.
