NextEra Energy Inc. swung to a profit for the fourth quarter on higher revenue but it missed analysts' top-line estimates, sending shares tumbling 3.1% in premarket trading to $79.42.
The energy company posted a net profit attributable to the company of $1.2 billion, compared with a loss of $5 million in the year-earlier period. Earnings were 61 cents on a per-share basis and 41 cents as adjusted. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting 39 cents an adjusted share.
Operating revenues were $5.05 billion, up from $4.4 billion in the prior year. Analysts were expecting $6.25 billion.
Net operating expenses were $3.75 billion, compared with $3.53 billion in the year-ago quarter.
