BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) _ Nike Inc. (NKE) on Thursday reported a fiscal fourth-quarter loss of $790 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Beaverton, Oregon-based company said it had a loss of 51 cents.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 2 cents per share.

The athletic apparel maker posted revenue of $6.31 billion in the period, which also did not meet Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $7.26 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.54 billion, or $1.60 per share. Revenue was reported as $37.4 billion.

Nike shares have climbed slightly since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has declined almost 5%. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $101.40, an increase of 23% in the last 12 months.
