PHOENIX (AP) _ Nikola Corp. (NKLA) on Tuesday reported a loss of $143.2 million in its second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Phoenix-based company said it had a loss of 36 cents. Losses, adjusted for stock option expense and non-recurring costs, were 20 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 27 cents per share.

Nikola shares have dropped 27% since the beginning of the year. The stock has fallen 63% in the last 12 months.
