PHOENIX (AP) _ Nikola Corp. (NKLA) on Thursday reported a loss of $159.4 million in its fourth quarter.

The Phoenix-based company said it had a loss of 39 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for stock option expense and non-recurring costs, were 23 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 29 cents per share.

For the year, the company reported that its loss widened to $690.4 million, or $1.74 per share.
