Nintendo Co. said about 140,000 more user accounts than previously thought were accessed without authorization in a recent data breach, bringing the total number hacked to about 300,000.

The Japanese video game maker revealed in April that about 160,000 Nintendo Network ID accounts had been hacked.

Nintendo announced in a press release on Tuesday that it discovered the data breach was more serious than it had earlier admitted.

Nintendo locked the hacked accounts, requesting customers who have been potentially affected to reset their passwords via a prompt sent by the company.

The accounts, used for game consoles such as Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, do not store credit card information. Personal information such as email addresses and dates of birth registered with the accounts may have been accessed, according to the Kyoto-based company.

As of March 31, the company sold a total of 75.77 million units of the Nintendo 3DS, 55.77 million units of its Nintendo Switch console and 13.56 million Wii U units, globally.
