Major Fire at Jamalco's Powerhouse
A major fire which broke out at Jamalco's Powerhouse on Sunday, 22 August has been extinguished. The Powerhouse produces power, compressed air and steam for the alumina refining operations.
No one was seriously injured in the incident. A full assessment of the damage will be done in the coming days to determine the cause of the fire and estimate the full extent of the damage. Additional information will follow.
Jamalco mines bauxite and refines it into alumina, which is exported from Jamaica.
Jamalco is a joint venture between General Alumina Jamaica Limited (a member of Noble Group Holdings Limited) and Clarendon Alumina Production Limited (a Jamaican Government owned company).
