Nokia Corp. said Thursday that it has appointed Nishant Batra as chief strategy and technology officer and as a member of the Nokia Group Leadership Team, effective Jan. 18, 2021.

Mr. Batra joins Nokia from Veoneer Inc., where he was chief technology officer. Previously, he held several positions at Ericsson AB over 12 years in Sweden, India and the U.S., most recently as head of networks.

"The company has the true potential to work with diverse customer groups in the market and I see that we can make a significant impact over the long term," Mr. Batra said.

"My personal ambition will be to ensure that Nokia is strategically positioned to win and that Nokia Bell Labs continues to be seen as the pinnacle of innovation."

Mr. Batra will be based initially in Espoo, Finland, after which he will move to the U.S.
