Nokia announced on Thursday that its Bell Labs, the company's renowned research and innovation center dedicated to communications technologies, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
In a press release, the Finnish equipment manufacturer points out that the center has been responsible for groundbreaking discoveries in fields such as radio astronomy, semiconductors and cellular communications.
Thanks to these advances, its scientists have been awarded ten Nobel Prizes and five Turing Awards, among others.
Nokia points out that the cluster is currently working on projects such as lunar communications and 6G.
The group took over Bell Labs in 2016 as part of its takeover of Alcatel-Lucent, which had itself inherited AT&T's telecommunications equipment design and manufacturing activities, grouped together under the term Bell Labs since 1996.
