Nokia Corp. said Tuesday that it has signed an agreement to sell U.S. alternative-energy systems provider ClearWorld's street lighting poles as part of its smart city solutions portfolio.

"ClearWorld's intelligent solar LED smart poles equipped with Nokia technology provide a full suite of Internet of Things applications that make cities smarter and safer," Nokia said.

The deal will see Nokia initially sell ClearWorld's poles to U.S. cities and military bases. Deployed in locations such as parks, parking lots and roadways, the ClearWorld connected digital pole supports applications such as video analytics, Wi-Fi access points, gun shot detection, smart lighting and license-plate reading.
