Nomura Appoints Jeff McDermott as Global Co-Head of Investment

Tokyo, New York and London, 22 September 2021-Nomura Holdings has today announced the appointment of Jeff McDermott as Senior Managing Director, Nomura Securities International, Inc., and Global Co-Head of Investment Banking based in New York. His appointment is effective October 1, 2021.

In this newly created role, Mr. McDermott will lead the expansion and growth of Nomura's global investment banking platform and scale its US investment banking franchise. He will report globally to Masahiro Goto, Global Head of Investment Banking, and locally to Christopher Willcox, CEO & President, Nomura Securities International, Inc.

Steve Ashley, Head of Wholesale Division, Nomura, said: "In this new role, Jeff will lead our strategy to build Nomura's US investment banking franchise and to grow our global investment banking platform, with a particular focus on the megatrends of sustainability and digital. These are areas in which we have already built a strong track record and where Jeff has many years of experience and expertise."

Nomura is committed to this space, announcing at its Investor Day earlier this year plans to grow its global advisory revenue by more than 50% by the end of FY23/24. The bank will aim to expedite and further increase this target by attracting and retaining both senior and junior industry professionals with the sector expertise to help clients navigate through the changes caused by sustainability and digital themes.

Mr. McDermott is the Founder and Chairman of Nomura Greentech, a fully integrated investment banking team within Nomura. He was the Joint Global Head of Investment Banking at UBS prior to founding Greentech Capital Advisors, which was acquired by Nomura on April 1, 2020. Mr. McDermott has a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from The Anderson School at UCLA.
