Nordic Semiconductor today announces that it has received a '5 Year Long Term Partnership' award at the recent Meituan/Mobike Global Supplier Conference. The award not only recognizes the length of partnership but also Nordic's world class technical support and supply chain management.

Launched in 2015, Beijing Mobike Technology Co., Ltd, was the world's first bicycle sharing company, and is by number of bicycles the largest hire bike operator globally. The company was acquired by Chinese e-commerce company Meituan-Dianping in 2018, and today the company operates in over 200 cities and 19 countries around the world.

Share bike connectivity

Nordic Semiconducator has partnered with Meituan / Mobike since its inception, with its first bikes integrating Nordic's nRF51802 general purpose, ultra-low power Bluetooth® Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) System-on-Chip (SoC) to provide the wireless connectivity between the share bike and the user's smartphone.

From the smartphone app users can find a bike near them and then instantly unlock it using the in-built Bluetooth LE capability provided by the Nordic SoC. Today, new share bikes are employing the nRF52840, Nordic's most advanced ultra low power nRF52 Series SoC. All Nordic SoCs have a reputation for providing interoperability with the widest range of smartphone brands.

'The shared bike industry is growing rapidly, and has experienced a major spike in demand during 2020 as a result of Covid-19,' says Leon Wu, Regional Sales Manager - North China, Nordic Semiconductor. 'We are committed to supporting our customers as they grow and, while delighted to receive this award now, only believe this partnership will become even stronger into the future.'

Bluetooth LE leadership

Recognized as the world's leading Bluetooth® Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) semiconductor chip company (measured by Bluetooth LE end-product certifications), Nordic Semiconductor has today evolved into a wireless IoT company able to 'connect anything' via ultra-low power, short-range wireless technologies such as Bluetooth LE; or low-power, long-range wireless technologies such as the latest IoT-targeted version of cellular wireless technology, LTE-M and NB-IoT. Nordic recently acquired Imagination Technologies' Wi-Fi development team and Wi-Fi IP tech assets to add to its wireless expertise.
