ACHESON, Alberta (AP) _ North American Construction Group Ltd. (NOA) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter profit of $7.7 million.

On a per-share basis, the Acheson, Alberta-based company said it had profit of 25 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 28 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 22 cents per share.

The heavy construction and mining services company posted revenue of $105 million in the period, which fell short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $118.1 million.

For the year, the company reported profit of $36.7 million, or $1.19 per share. Revenue was reported as $373.5 million.

North American Construction shares have risen almost 9% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $10.74, remaining stable over the last 12 months.
