TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ NortonLifeLock Inc. (NLOK) on Thursday reported fiscal third-quarter net income of $178 million.

On a per-share basis, the Tempe, Arizona-based company said it had net income of 30 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 38 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 37 cents per share.

The security software maker posted revenue of $639 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $700 million, which also topped Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $630.2 million.

For the current quarter ending in March, NortonLifeLock expects its per-share earnings to range from 37 cents to 39 cents.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $655 million to $665 million for the fiscal fourth quarter.

NortonLifeLock shares have increased 3% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $21.44, an increase of 22% in the last 12 months.
