15 STARTUPS CHOSEN TO BE PART OF THE 5G INNOVATION PROGRAM

  • Collaborative Innovation Program received more than 50 applications
  • Chosen startups take part in a 2 day Bootcamp and will have access to 7 weeks of mentoring
  • Program ends on the 30th of June and the best projects will be considered for investment by the NOS 5G Fund

The 15 startups selected to be part of the 5G Accelerator - Collaborative Innovation Program have been disclosed, a program promoted by NOS and Amazon Web Services (AWS), with support from Startup Lisbon. Final applications were accepted on the 18th of April and there were more than 50 in total. After a pre-selection process, 30 projects went forward to the phase of presentation to a jury, made up of representatives from NOS, AWS, Armilar and Startup Lisbon, which then selected the 15 finalists that have now been announced.

These startups are developing solutions in areas as wide ranging as Health, Industry, the Environment, Smart Cities, Entertainment and Tourism, and use different technologies that can be leveraged by the fifth generation of mobile networks, such as IOT, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. The majority of these projects are in a phase of medium to high maturity, and some already have a solid customer base. They share the same common vision - to use 5G technology to make their businesses grow.

  • AgroInsider: Precision services for large scale agriculture, available for farmers, agronomists and companies, with price ranges that are accessible and differentiated by scale and specific requirements.
  • AR Geo:Solution that combines the use of augmented reality and geolocation for digital marketing, aimed at multi-national companies, retail and small and medium sized companies.
  • BBox Sports:Engagement tool that develops new ways of connection between fans and their sports teams using Augmented Reality, linked to official collectable merchandise.
  • BestHeath4U: Intelligent adhesive integrated with digital forecasting and screening software, which monitors chronic or other injuries remotely, using innovative bio nanomaterials to apply medical devices to the skin.
  • BoxToLife: Cloud based platform, with which it is possible to create and manage interactive content for specific visitor profiles to museums, parks and monuments.
  • Clever Volume: Simple, scaleable, and automatic solution to obtain information about wastage and waste management in seconds.

  • FootAR: Augmented Reality experience for sports fans, using a second screen app that adds a new layer of intelligent information in real time to the event that the user is watching.
  • Kit AR: Augmented reality and machine learning solution to help factory floor operators and optimize production processes.
  • Live Electric Tours: Self-drive experience with 100% electric vehicles, equipped with free internet, Audio Guide GPS and a live camera that lets the user share everything live with friends and family via social networks.
  • Omniflow: Sustainable solutions for intelligent cities, such as, for example, the Smart IoT Lamppost, an intelligent lamp post, fueled by solar and wind power that can house 5G cells, air quality sensors, electric chargers and edge computing.
  • Onalytics: Solutions for the management of returnable industrial assets in complex distribution chains.
  • PackIOT: Simple and definitive IoT solution to increase efficiency in industrial environments.
  • UShowMe: Interactive Live Stream and Video-On-Demand platform for the Arts and Culture industry with the mission of helping artists and show organizers to move towards hybrid interactive shows and concerts.
  • SurgeonMate:Application developed for health professionals that allows them to create and store multimedia content and clinical data in a secure cloud based service, and carry out tele - mentoring, or in other words perform their work with the remote help of a specialist.
  • Virtuleap:Solution that combines neuroscience and special computing, with the goal of helping to increase attention levels, deal with cognitive problems, learning difficulties and challenges by using a library of augmented reality games.

Over a period of two days on the 6th and 7th of May, the startups will meet up at a virtual Bootcamp with the goals of better understanding the potential of the new technology and applications that 5G can bring, discussing the state of implementation across the world, and looking at relevant use cases. It is also seen as a moment to foster mutual understanding among participants, linking the objectives and development trajectories of ideas and businesses with the goals of the program.

Over and above stimulating the innovation ecosystem and 5G entrepreneurship in Portugal, the 5G Accelerator aims to create opportunities to make startups possible in a collaborative manner by having access to specialist mentors. And so, as from the 21st of May, the phase of Mentoring begins, which, in addition to dedicated follow up by NOS, AWS and partners helping to develop projects, also involves

webinars, networking and open innovation sessions, as well as talks by specialists in 5G technology, entrepreneurship and risk capital.

The program ends on the 30th of June with the holding of a Demo Day and the presentation to the public of the startup finalists and potential partners and investors, among which is Armilar Venture Partners, the managing entity of the NOS 5G Fund, with a capital of 10 million euros.

Through this program, NOS and AWS intend to support the building of an entrepreneurial national ecosystem, leading the digital transformation and leveraging the creation of opportunities associated with the arrival of the new mobile technology in Portugal.
