Union Power Minister lays Foundation Stone of NTPC's 2640 MW Bundelkhand Super Thermal Power Project

The foundation stone of NTPC's 2640 MW Bundelkhand Super Thermal Power Project was laid by Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of State of Power (I/C) at Barethi, Chattarpur District of Madhya Pradesh today. Comprising of 4 units of 660 MW each and with environment friendly super critical technology, the project is expected to contribute significantly to the economic and social development of the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the Barethi power project is an important milestone for the state as well as the entire country. The power project will help to make Bundelkhand one of the most prosperous regions of the State, he added. He informed that Ministry of Power is pursuing APDRP, Rural Electrification programs to reach power to all as electricity is prime to the need of the country for its growth. He appreciated NTPC's efforts in setting up power projects in the country and adding to the wheels of progress in the remote locations. Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Railways, Shri Rajendra Shukla, Energy Minister Madhya Pradesh, Senior leaders from Madhya Pradesh, Bundelkhand Region were present with him on the occasion. Shri P.K.Sinha, Secretary Power, Dr Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC, Shri U.P. Pani, Director (HR) , Shri A. K. Jha, Director ( Technical) , Shri M.P. Sinha , General Manager, NTPC Bundelkhand and other senior officials were also present.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Railways said I am lucky to be witnessing this historic occasion in Madhya Pradesh. He added that Bundelkhand is in need for such projects for its growth and the project will bring prosperity to the Region and help in reducing power deficit in our country.

The State Energy Minister , Shri Rajendra Shukla said that the government is pro-actively taking up all energy related projects in line with the future power requirements of the state. He said it is a matter of pride to have a professional company like NTPC contributing to the growth of our State.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Power, Shri P.K.Sinha said Bundelkhand Project shall become one of the largest projects of NTPC in the region in coming years. Appreciating NTPC's efforts he said the company is known for its environment friendly initiatives and CSR where ever it sets up projects and shall continue doing so in Bundelkhand.

In his address Dr Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, said NTPC is privileged to have got this opportunity to contribute towards progress of Bundelkhand region by setting up the power station.

Fifty percent of the power generated from the project will be supplied to the state of Madhya Pradesh. The estimated cost of the project is approx Rs 18000 crore and is envisaged to be commissioned in the 13th Plan linked to development of coal mine.

NTPC presently meets about 24 % of the total power requirement of Madhya Pradesh allocated from its various stations and has its largest power station in the country Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station of 4,260 MW installed capacity, situated in Singrauli district.

With laying of foundation stone in Bundelkhand, NTPC has over 4800 MW of capacity under construction in Madhya Pradesh which includes largest solar power project of 50 MW at Rajgarh, 1600 MW Gadarwara Super Thermal Power Project in Narsinghpur Distt. , 500 MW is also under construction at Vindhyachal and 2640 MW at Barethi, for which foundation is laid today.
