Nutrien Ltd. posted higher profit in the second quarter as revenue boosted its bottom line through fertilizer price increases and increasing demand for food production.

The fertilizer giant recorded a profit of $1.11 billion, up from $765 million in the same period a year earlier. Earnings rose to $1.94 cents a share, compared with $1.34 a share a year ago. Adjusted earnings were $2.08 a share. Analysts on average were expecting $2.10 an adjusted share, according to a FactSet poll.

Revenue increased to $9.76 billion from $8.43 billion a year earlier.
