HOUSTON (AP) _ Occidental Petroleum Corp. (OXY) on Thursday reported third-quarter profit of $828 million.

On a per-share basis, the Houston-based company said it had net income of 65 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, were 87 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 65 cents per share.

The oil and gas exploration and production company posted revenue of $6.82 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $6.52 billion.
