HOUSTON (AP) _ Occidental Petroleum Corp. (OXY) on Thursday reported fourth-quarter profit of $1.54 billion.

The Houston-based company said it had profit of $1.37 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $1.48 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.08 per share.

The oil and gas exploration and production company posted revenue of $8.01 billion in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $7.19 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.32 billion, or $1.58 per share. Revenue was reported as $26.31 billion.
