Houston, December 10, 2020 - Oceaneering International, Inc. ("Oceaneering") is proud to announce that Joe Armstead, Deputy Director of Business Development for Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH) in Hanover, Maryland, will receive the 2021 Science Spectrum Trailblazer award at the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) in February.

"We congratulate Joe for winning this prestigious honor at the BEYA STEM Conference," said Peter Young, Vice President, OTECH. "This award could not have been earned by a more humble, hardworking, technically capable engineer and manager."

Of the award, Joe Armstead said: "I am truly honored to be nominated and receive the award for Science Spectrum Trailblazer. It would not be possible without the entire Oceaneering organization providing me with the opportunity to accomplish such a feat. It's a true reflection of the team that I work with which inspires me to reach even higher and farther every day."

A subject matter expert in fiber optics, batteries, and complex underwater systems, Armstead has worked for Oceaneering for 17 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in engineering from Swarthmore College and is a member of the Naval Submarine League, the Project Management Institute, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

TheBEYA STEM Awardsare hosted by U.S. Black Engineer and Information Technology magazine and the Council of Engineering Deans of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The awards recognize outstanding contributions to the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields across the public, private, and academic sectors. The Science Spectrum Trailblazer Award is granted to individuals in the workforce and are recommended for this award by their employer.
