Expert series: The truth about COVID-19 variants

09/01/2021 | 10:52am EDT

Ocugen/Harris Poll Reveals Need for COVID-19 Vaccine Options

Through mid-August the percentage of Americans fully vaccinated remains just over 50% and the total number

of COVID-19 cases have passed 36 million. The combination of unvaccinated and breakthrough cases in previously vaccinated are spiking the positivity rate to levels comparable to December 2020. The Delta variant is also causing a surge in the number of children testing positive and CDC reports the number of children hospitalized with COVID-19 has steadily increased since early July. As the FDA races to approve mRNA vaccines the question remains - will the 'vaccine hesitant' finally line up for their two-dose injections? An online survey by The Harris Poll on behalf

of Ocugen conducted July 26-28 suggests not. So, what will get the vaccine-hesitant on board - the answer is surprisingly simple - they want a safer option.

This survey was conducted online within the United States by The Harris Poll on behalf of Ocugen from July 26-28, 2021 among 2,074 adults ages 18+, of whom 630 have not received a COVID-19 vaccine. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
