Indian chess prodigy Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, one of the raw talents nurtured by ONGC's Scholarship Scheme during 2016-19, has become the pride of the nation. The 16-year-old sports star from Chennai has secured an astonishing victory against World Champion Magnus Carlsen in 8th round of Airthings Masters tournament.

Praggnanandhaa was the fifth youngest in the world to achieve Grandmaster title at the age of 12 years 10 months and 19 days. He was with ONGC under its Scholarship Scheme from 2016-19, until the scholarship scheme was unfortunately stopped.

ONGC, being the Energy Maharatna of the nation, has taken upon itself to support budding sports talents at grass root level across the country. The organization is supporting and promoting sportspersons and sporting activities in every corner of the nation. It has played a pivotal role in the success stories of many sports icons of today.

In a testament to its commitment to promote sports, five sportspersons of ONGC were recently conferred with the Arjuna Awards for 2021. Seven ONGCians also represented India last year at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, at various formats of the game.
