Notice Concerning the Construction of a New Plant Building

The Company hereby announces that its Board of Directors has resolved at its meeting held today that the Company will construct a new plant building in the site of the Tsukuba Plant (Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture).

In its Midterm Management Plan, the Okamura Group identified as a group-wide effort a supply chain reform to suit manufacturing a wide variety of products flexibly in order to respond to increasingly diverse customer needs and changing market trends.

The Company has set aside 40 to 50 billion yen to fund strategic investments, including those for strengthening existing businesses and creating new businesses and those for addressing priority issues, for the three-year period from 2020 to 2022. This construction is part of such investments.

  • 1. Purpose of the construction of a new plant

The Office Furniture business is experiencing strong demand for office renovation to support new work styles arising from, for example, the modification of central office functions as a result of the spread of hybrid workplaces caused by rapid changes in social values and lifestyles under the COVID-19 pandemic. We expect that the diversification of needs and changes in trends will further accelerate going forward.

By constructing a new plant building, the Company will create a flexible production system for new products as well as its main products to respond to changes in the market. The new plant building will also be instrumental in the promotion of ongoing cost reductions across the entire supply chain by improving in-house production ratio and enhancing the plant warehousing function.
