OMV AG said Thursday that it has secured additional capacity for gas transport for the coming year as the energy industry gears up for an uncertain winter.

The Austrian oil-and-gas company said it has secured 40 TWh of further gas capacity into Austria for the year starting Oct. 1 and finishing Sept. 30, 2023.

The amount corresponds to nearly half of Austria's annual gas requirements and covers OMV's delivery obligations in the country, the company said.

"This will enable us to bring the gas we produce ourselves in Norway, as well as purchased LNG volumes, to Austria when needed and reliably supply our customers," Chief Executive Alfred Stern said.
