România Eficientă launches the Energy Efficiency Calculator for household energy consumers

28 April 2021. Household energy consumers can now benefit from the Energy Efficiency Calculator, a unique tool on the Romanian market, developed within the Romania Eficienta program, rolled out by the Energy Policy Group and sponsored by OMV Petrom. The new online tool helps household consumers calculate in three simple steps what is the average energy consumption for heating, hot water generation and cooking, but also to find out the approximate values of the savings they could get in energy bills by thermal rehabilitation of the house.

The Energy Efficiency Calculator can be used by all household consumers in Romania, regardless of the geographical region in which they live or the type of housing (single-family house or apartment block).

This tool created within the România Eficientă project is designed to be easy to use and understand by users. After completing the three simple steps - choosing the location, description of the home and type of consumers - the user can view the average values of annual energy consumption, estimated costs and environmental impact generated by this consumption, respectively the annual amount of carbon dioxide

At the same time, the household consumer will find out how heat loss is distributed in the home - through walls, windows, floor and roof. If the house is not rehabilitated, the Calculator also shows what energy savings can be obtained from the thermal rehabilitation of the house, but also how the carbon footprint decreases.

'The Energy Efficiency Calculator was created within the Romania eficientă program as an element of our public awareness campaign on the benefits of energy efficiency. It is an intuitive, easy-to-use online tool through which any user, after providing some basic information about their place of residence and type of home, can immediately obtain some estimated data about the energy savings they can obtain through very simple measures', said Radu Dudău, director of Energy Policy Group and coordinator of the Romania eficienta project.

'Education and access to information, such as those you can get through the application launched today, help us adopt a more responsible behavior towards energy. With the building sector accounting for over one-third of global final energy consumption and nearly 40% of total direct and indirect CO2 emissions, making buildings more energy efficient is a mandatory step in addressing the climate challenge. There are a couple of measures that each of us can start with, in our own homes, in order to contribute to the reduction of energy consumption', said Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom.

For an efficient consumption of energy resources, beyond the renovation of the home, a very important, but often neglected, component is the one related to consumption habits. Therefore, in this Calculator, the users will also find useful tips to reduce energy waste.

Given that we spend about 90% of our time inside buildings, our health and well-being are strongly influenced by the quality of the indoor environment. Therefore, beyond the savings in energy bills, the renovation of a building - which means not only insulation, but also the modernization of heating systems, cooling, ventilation, lighting, etc. - brings many benefits to the health of residents. Measures to increase energy performance also help reduce the impact of buildings on the environment, given that climate change has become a major global threat.
