(Alliance News) - OptiBiotix Health PLC on Monday said its exclusive distributor Nahdi Medical Co has received approval from the Saudi Food and Drug authority.

The York-based probiotics developer tackling cardiovascular diseases and lifestyle conditions said the approval is for its GoFigure shakes and bars, which contain patented weight management aid SlimBiome.

The GoFigure range of products consists of powdered meal replacement and beverage products such as shakes and smoothies, and healthy snacking including gummies and so on.

OptiBiotix said the approval is a "milestone to marketing and selling the products through pharmacies of Nahdi in Saudi Arabia".

The firm said it has now received the first purchase order from Nahdi and begun manufacturing. It expects the launch in first quarter next year.

Chief Executive Officer Rene Kamminga said: "I am very pleased the regulatory approval process is now complete and that we can now focus on getting the GoFigure range direct to the Saudi consumer. The GoFigure range has been specifically formulated to support consumers aiming to reduce their weight, help them stick to their change in diet and improve their gut microbiome at the same time. This particular range has been adapted specifically to fit the consumer preferences in Saudi Arabia and we are confident that we can build lasting success with our partner Nahdi."

OptiBiotix said it signed an exclusive sales and marketing deal with Nahdi last December, who owns the largest pharmacy network in Saudi Arabia.

Shares were up 2.3% at 17.90 pence each on Monday afternoon in London.
