Guitar Center Inc., which sells musical instruments in the U.S., is redeploying its data centers to Oracle Corp.'s cloud platform for better support of its increasing online and in-store demand for instruments and services, including lessons and repairs.

The project began in early 2022, according to a Wall Street Journal report, and was necessary as the retailer's order management wasn't able to handle peak shopping periods. System down times could mean more than $5 million in losses, Ravi Balwada, the retailer's CTO, told the news outlet.

"We kept things running, but it was a lot of hard work," Balwada told the WSJ.

The move to Oracle is allowing the company to save $1.5 million a year and increased online shopping conversion rates by approximately 1.6%, according to the report.
