The importance of networks was demonstrated once again in 2021, when they became an even more essential part of our daily lives, to work, learn, communicate, and access entertainment. Networks are also central to our business and a key pillar of our Engage 2025 strategic plan, which is why we continued our efforts to accelerate fiber and 5G deployments across Europe. The Group also opened several Orange 5G Labs, enabling European companies to test and develop future 5G applications. Finally, as a responsible operator, Orange is committed to becoming net zero carbon by 2040, and network innovation will be a key contributing factor.

Remote Reality Racing with Orange 5G Lab
Take part in a remote car race via 5G

Orange presents, in collaboration with Polyptik, the creator of the Vrombr concept, a car race on a scale model circuit to feel the future possibilities of 5G from the driving seat.
Each participant is equipped with a smartphone connected to Orange Spain's 5G commercial network to remotely control a 1:10 model vehicle on a 40-meter-long circuit at the Orange 5G Lab in Châtillon on the outskirts of Paris. The vehicles are equipped with 5G SIM cards connected to Orange's 5G commercial network in France. Using a mobile app, players will try to achieve the best score, from the Barcelona stand. Thanks to an on-board camera, the race is live streamed over 5G from Châtillon and broadcast via the Orange stand in Barcelona. These real-time and remote operations are possible thanks to the high speed and low latency of the 5G network. This demonstration is the result of a collaboration between Polyptik and Orange. The start-up benefitted from the support of the Orange 5G Lab, where it tested its Vrombr concept in a dedicated 5G environment with the help of experts.

EDUCATION ZONE

Notre-Dame de Paris: Journey through time in VR
An immersive visit to an iconic landmark in high definition

This demo will invite visitors to experience an immersive journey through the mythical Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. This groundbreaking innovation enables visitors to explore the key milestones in the history of the cathedral, from its construction in the Middle Ages to the current restoration site.
Until now, to take full advantage of this type of experience, visitors would have to bring a laptop (in a backpack) connected to the headset, but the data processing is done in this case entirely in the cloud for extra comfort. The high-quality 3D images add to the visitor experience.
The demo relies on the combined power of 5G, with its extremely low latency, and Cloud XR, a cloud streaming technology for extended reality. Together, they make it possible to broadcast ever more immersive and spectacular content, without compromising on quality, for use at home or on the move.

As a follow-up to this demo, Orange offers companies the opportunity to test new experiences using these technologies within its Orange 5G Lab.

NETWORKS ZONE:
5G underwater drone

An immersive tour of Valencia's aquarium from Barcelona

Orange Spain will control a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) submerged in the largest tank in the Oceanogràfic aquarium (in Valencia) from the stand at MWC, thanks to 5G's ultra-reliable low latency and superfast mobile broadband.
A user, located on the Orange stand, more than 400 km away from Oceanogràfic, will remotely control the underwater drone using hand movements. These hand movements, converted into signals and sent to the drone in real time via the 5G network, will control and drive the drone inside the aquarium. Images captured by the drone's HD camera will be transmitted live to the Orange stand through 5G connectivity, where they will be projected to the audience on a large screen for an immersive tour of the aquarium all the way from the Fira in Barcelona.

Sustainable networks: aiming for net zero carbon (OSCAR)

Networks with a positive environmental impact

As part of Orange's goal to achieve net zero carbon by 2040, the Group has launched OSCAR (Orange Sustainable and Circular Ambition for Recertification), to promote the circular economy within its network operations.

Visitors will be able to discover the role played by the OSCAR program in helping to develop a circular economy for Orange's IT and network equipment: the new terms for selecting suppliers, purchasing refurbished equipment, reusing modules, and extending the lifecycle of equipment.

The aim is to reduce the pressure on natural resources and the carbon footprint linked to producing and using infrastructure components, all while guaranteeing a high level of technical innovation in Orange's networks and optimizing operational efficiency.

INDUSTRY ZONE
Orange collaborative XR solution for enterprises

A new extended reality experience through 5G

This demo will present a new and immersive extended reality (XR) meeting.
By incorporating Fracture Reality's JoinXR multi-user 3D environment and Microsoft's HoloLens smart glasses, participants will enjoy an immersive meeting. They will be able to interact with other participants, chat using holograms, and manipulate hyper-realistic 3D models placed in the physical world.
The quality of the XR experience is enabled by Orange's high-performing 5G network, which allows large amounts of data to be transmitted at ultra-fast speeds from the XR Cloud to the user's XR headset.

A digital twin platform for optimized production

Increase performance through a digital image that integrates the factory line, sequencing, spare parts and their location

This demo simulates an industrial production line and describes how to optimize manufacturing flows. The objective is to obtain products of a higher quality, with a more reliable, cheaper, and faster production process. This is achieved by combining the Digital Twin platform with an IoT1 application.
Visitors will be able to watch the end of an industrial assembly process in which certain components are missing. They will discover how the operator uses a "digital twin" in a production context, coupled with a smart tracking mobile app, to geolocate missing parts in real time and finish the assembly without wasting precious time.
This innovation increases the reliability of production processes while reducing costs and improving the quality and speed of delivery of manufactured goods.
