To support the Group's net zero carbon target, Orange countries in Africa and the Middle East are increasing the number of solar panel projects to supply telecoms sites. In Liberia, for example, 75% of sites are already equipped with solar panels, and a total of 5,400 sites are now equipped across the region with 100% solar or hybrid solutions, saving 55 million liters of fuel a year.

When combined with other initiatives such as accelerating solar-related projects and modernizing data centers, using solar panels directly contributes to our target of meeting 50% of our electricity needs from renewable sources by 2025 and achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Solar farms in Jordan

Jordan is one of the Orange countries in the MEA region with the highest renewable energy rate, equal to or even greater than 50%. Three solar farms have been installed so far, covering 65% of Orange Jordan's energy needs in 2020. Since 2018, the country has reduced its CO2 emissions by 45 metric kilotons through its solar infrastructure.
