LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) _ Packaging Corp. of America (PKG) on Monday reported second-quarter net income of $207.3 million.

On a per-share basis, the Lake Forest, Illinois-based company said it had net income of $2.17.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.75 per share.

The maker of containerboard and corrugated packaging products posted revenue of $1.88 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.81 billion.

Packaging Corp. shares have dropped slightly more than 2% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $134.56, a rise of 31% in the last 12 months.
