21.02.2022 TMK sign a cooperation agreement with the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region and Sinara Group

With a view to supporting the necessary infrastructure expansion, the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region, Sinara Group and TMK have signed a cooperation agreement to build a world-class student campus in Yekaterinburg. The document was signed by Evgeny Kuivashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, and Dmitry Pumpyanskiy, President of Sinara Group and Chairman of TMK's Board of Directors, in the presence of Valery Falkov, Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education. The signing ceremony was organized by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

The agreement establishes cooperation between the parties to promote high-quality education, ensure equal access to advanced educational resources for the residents of the Sverdlovsk Region, and enable educational institutions to fully meet the economy's talent requirements.

The agreement also formalizes the involvement of Sinara Group and TMK in building individual infrastructure facilities for the Ural Federal University's future campus. The student campus will be built in Yekaterinburg's new Novokoltsovsky District, and will include the World University Games' facilities, which are to be built by 2023. The campus will include new academic buildings for the Graduate School of Economics and Management and the Engineering School of Information Technologies, Telecommunications and Control Systems, as well as a specialized training and research center and facilities for the Games, such as dormitories for 8,500 students, a community center and a healthcare center, and a training ground with athletics tracks, all of which will remain in service after the Games are over.

The Minister noted that the construction of the campus in Yekaterinburg will help reduce the outflow of young talent from the region and contribute to the implementation of innovative training and research programs.

Valery Falkov, Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education, said:

"A vast unique space, designed not only for studies, but also for a comfortable student life, the campus includes both academic buildings and laboratories, as well as dormitories, sports infrastructure, study and recreation spaces, communal working areas, and technology parks. It is important for us that young people stay in their home regions, have access to high-quality higher education, and are able to find a job and fulfill their dreams locally. The construction of world-class campuses supported by leading regional companies will address this issue and make regional universities an attractive place for students."

Evgeny Kuivashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, said:

"It is a great honor and responsibility for the Sverdlovsk Region to be among the first regions to soon have state-of-the-art campuses and this is a unique chance for the Ural Federal University to get infrastructure that will unlock its full research, educational, and innovational potential. Today, we are actively working on this project with the support from large businesses."

Dmitry Pumpyanskiy, President of Sinara Group and Chairman of TMK's Board of Directors, commented:

"Urals businesses have actively supported these efforts to implement the Russian Prime Minister's instructions, and as President of the Sverdlovsk Regional Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, I would like to thank all the companies involved. Today, TMK and Sinara Group also signed an agreement pledging to help implement the construction of this state-of-the-art world-class campus, which is a top priority for the Urals Federal District, Sverdlovsk Region and Yekaterinburg. On top of supplying highly qualified talent with valuable expertise, the project will also enable effective career guidance for an even greater number of talented students while further developing Yekaterinburg, creating new jobs and updating the city's transport strategy. We are working on something great together, and I would like to thank Valery Falkov and Evgeny Kuivashev for supporting this endeavor. We have always supported and will continue to support all innovative initiatives that the Ministry and the Russian Government are bringing forward to promote science and higher education."

Viktor Koksharov, Rector of Ural Federal University, said:

"The new infrastructure will enhance students' digital skills while facilitating the development of projects in partnership with leading regional companies. To this end, each building will have communal working spaces, transformer classrooms, conference halls, and training and research laboratories. The new campus will also house a student high technology center and a data center."

According to Viktor Koksharov, the University's new campus will accommodate close to 7,700 students majoring in IT, economics and management, and high school students from the specialized training and research center.

The agreement becomes effective from the date of signing and is valid until 31 December 2024.
