TMK to supply 15 thousand tonnes of pipe for gas turbine power plant project in Turkmenistan

TMK will supply Türkmengaz, the national gas company of Turkmenistan, with 15 thousand tonnes of high-tech pipe under a gas turbine power plant project. The pipe will be used to transport natural gas from the existing gas fields in the country to Zerger gas turbine power plant, currently under construction in Turkmenistan's eastern Lebap Region.

Under the contract, Volzhsky Pipe Plant and Chelyabinsk Pipe Plant, both part of TMK, will ship large-diameter high-strength pipes with external insulation coating. This collaboration is part of the national Program for the Development of the Oil and Gas Industry of Turkmenistan till 2030 and the program to boost bilateral trade between Russia and Turkmenistan.

"Central Asia, where major energy projects are being stepped up, is a priority market for TMK. As part of cooperation with Turkmenistan, TMK's plants have been successfully supplying pipe and tubular products for many years to the fuel and energy sector, and the power industry of the country. A new contract for the supply of high-tech products to Türkmengaz, the state-owned company responsible for power generation, transmission and distribution, will promote the development of Turkmenistan's energy infrastructure and expand its export potential. We plan to fully deliver under the contract as early as 2021," said Denis Prikhodko, TMK's Director of Sales.

The contract for the Zerger power plant project was signed in 2015 between Sumitomo Corporation and Türkmenenergo during a visit by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Turkmenistan. Three Japanese-made gas turbines with a total design capacity of 432 MW will be installed at the power plant, which is set to become the main source of electricity supply from Turkmenistan to neighboring Afghanistan.
