Peloton Interactive Inc. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have extended the refund period for Peloton's recalled Tread+ treadmills by a year, after the company last month warned investors that the agency plans to seek fines for failures related to the recall.

The company and the regulatory agency said Tuesday that customers now have until Nov. 6, 2023, to file for a refund if they purchased one of the 125,000 Tread+ models that were recalled in 2021.

The exercise-equipment maker agreed to halt sales and recall the treadmills in May 2021 following reports of dozens of injuries and the death of a 6-year-old child who was pulled under one of the machines.

Peloton initially rebuffed the Consumer Product Safety Commission's urging for a recall before reversing course and apologizing for its earlier response.
