Company news from Kale United's portfolio

Kale United is currently raising new capital via Pepins.com, where the plant-based holding company intends to raise up to SEK 25 million. The fund raise is open for another 2 weeks, until October 13, 2022 you can subscribe for new shares. Since September 15, nearly SEK 10 million has been secured from over 350 shareholders.

Kale United's portfolio consists of more than 75 plant-based Scandinavian and global companies. Among these companies, we want to highlight some company news that have come to the market recently.

Hooked Foods

[Link]Hooked Foods is a Swedish impact company that has developed plant-based substitutes. Initially a tuna mixture, but now broadening the offer with the products Salmoonish, Toonish and Fish-ish sticks, which should be a sustainable replacement for fish sticks. All three products will be available at the major grocery stores from week 39. Hooked was founded in 2019 and is currently completing its Series A round of Euro 10 million. Kale United was among the first investors in Hooked Foods together with Brightly Ventures and the Swedish artist Danny Saucedo.

Mycorena
[Link]Mycorena is a Gothenburg-based innovative company that develops the next generation of vegan mushroom protein. In 2021 Mycorena in collaboration with Peas of Heaven launched a vegan sausage called The Converter. Now they take the next step in the collaboration and launch 4 new plant-based products and thereby also step into the freezer section. The new products will imitate burgers, meatballs, chicken filets and fish filets. Kale United invested in Mycorena for the first time in 2019. In the spring of 2022, the company closed a Series A round of SEK 240 million - the largest Nordic financing round ever in alternative proteins.

Heura

[Link]Heura is a plant-based company from Barcelona that Kale United invested for the first time in 2020 and did a follow-up round in 2021. Heura's first product was chick'n nuggets and now they are launching two new products - chick'n filet and Long Burger. Earlier this year, the company raised Euro 4 million via crowdfunding within just 12 hours. In July this year, it was reported that sales growth was 93% year-over-year. The company sponsors FC Barcelona's women's team.

The Pack

[Link]The London-based foodtech company The Pack, which produces planet-friendly pet food, is now launching three substitutes for fish, chicken and meat for our four-legged friends. The pet food industry produces 64 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. The company has previously raised capital from, among others, Veg Capital, but also football players such as Chris Smalling and Kevin Stuart.
