--Pernod Ricard SA may have approached Australia's Treasury Wine Estates Ltd. about a takeover that would value the wine maker at more than 5 billion pounds ($6.92 billion), British newspaper the Daily Mail reports, citing unnamed sources.

--The Australian company has already received an offer of 15.67 Australian dollars ($12.04) a share either from Pernod or from a U.S. private investment firm, according to the Daily Mail.

--Shares in Treasury Wine Estates in Sydney closed 6.4% higher at A$10.97 on Monday.

--A spokesman for Pernod Ricard declined to comment. Treasury Wine Estates didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
