KATKoneft LLC uses "neat fluid based on synthetic gelling agent" in its operations

Moscow, November 23, 2020

In 2020, the oil market is going through a difficult and adverse scenario, and this is the reason why the Customers of KATKoneft LLC (Oil Production Operators) optimize the cost of produced oil as much as possible and promptly introduce new methods into their operating procedures.

In this regard, KATKoneft LLC together with Wellprop LLC (part of the PeWeTe group of companies) has developed a technology for using a synthetic gelling agent. Synthetic gelling agent WP-SG belongs to the so-called "neat fluids" due to its high residual conductivity (up to 98%), which leads to a noticeable decrease in the colmatation of the proppant pack and the pore volume of the reservoir.

The main advantages of the technology:

  • the use of a PAA-based gel can significantly increase the effective half-length of the fracture compared to guar systems;

  • high residual conductivity in the fracture;

  • reduction in preparatory work costs: the ability to work on cold water, low sensitivity to water quality;

  • decrease in working pressure;

  • reduction of logistical costs and costs of delivery and storage;

  • simplification of the fracturing operation by reducing the used components of the gel.

Since the beginning of this year, KATKoneft LLC with the engineering support of Wellprop LLC has performed 20 successful hydraulic fracturing operations (maximum proppant tonnage - 90 tons, maximum proppant concentration - 1200 kg/m3) in the fields of the largest oil companies in Russia.

After carrying out these hydraulic fracturing operations, oil production indicators show an excess of the planned well flow rate by up to 70%.

The joint engineering team from KATKoneft LLC and Wellprop LLC continues to study and evaluate this technology from the scientific point of view, develops a methodology for assessing the quality of this chemical reagent system, and adapts this technology to various conditions.
