Pfizer Inc. on Wednesday said Frank D'Amelio plans to retire as chief financial officer and executive vice president of global supply.

The New York drugmaker said it has launched an external search for a new chief financial officer. Mr. D'Amelio, who joined as finance chief in 2007, has agreed to remain through the search process and to serve as a consultant to assist with the transition, it said.

Pfizer said Mike McDermott, currently president of global supply, will become executive vice president and chief global supply officer on Jan. 1 and will join the company's executive leadership team. Mr. McDermott has been with Pfizer since 2003.
