The United States has donated 1.3 million doses of Pfizer vaccines to Ghana to enable the country to continue the COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

The donation was in the fulfilment of a promise by the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to assist Ghana to vaccinate all its citizens.

At a short ceremony to present the vaccines to the Ministry of Health, the US Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan said the efficacy of Pfizer vaccines to contain the spread of the virus has been proven scientifically and it was against that backdrop the US had used it (Pfizer vaccine) to embark on her vaccination campaign.

She said strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols in addition to the vaccination would go a long way to control the pandemic and even slow down the development of potentially more dangerous variants.

She disclosed that the US Government had spent over 30 million dollars to help Ghana respond to COVID-19 challenges and would continue to assist the country's efforts in containing the spread of the virus.

On her part, Miss Anne-Claire Dufay, the UNICEF Representative to Ghana, noted that the donation would accelerate Ghana's efforts in protecting its citizens against the virus.

Mrs Tina Mensah, The Deputy Minister for Health, took the opportunity to appreciate other international partners such as COVAX, UNICEF and WHO for their continuous support in the management of the disease in the country.
