The first race day of the 2021 MOTUL FIM World Superbike Championship has just come to a close in Teruel (Spain) at the renowned MotorLand Aragón circuit. Pirelli is particularly satisfied with the performance of the new solutions brought for this round, the rear qualifying solution and the new front solution, both also used by Reigning World Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK / Kawasaki ZX-10RR), who set the new track record during Superpole and went on to win Race 1 in the afternoon.

This gives Jonathan Rea the first win of the 2021 season and automatically places him in the championship lead. Finishing second was his teammate Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK / Kawasaki ZX-10RR) and rounding out the podium was Yamaha rider Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK / Yamaha YZF R1).

In the Supersport category, on the other hand, Steven Odendaal (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team / Yamaha YZF R6) took home his seventh win ahead of Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha / Yamaha YZF R6) and Philipp Oettl (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing / Kawasaki ZX-6R).

In terms of tyres, in WorldSBK, the new Y0449 qualifier tyre, which had been used only at Laguna Seca in the 2019 season, allowed Jonathan Rea and Scott Redding to drop their times below the track record, with the best time of 1'48.458 put on the boards by six-time world champion, Rea.

Likewise, in Race 1, most of the riders relied on the new tyre Pirelli brought, the Z0628 development solution (option C), whereas the rest of the riders opted for the standard soft SC1 solution (option B), with the exception of Andrea Locatelli, who used the Y1231 development solution (option A). For the rear, 14 out of the 23 riders chose the super soft standard SCX solution (option A), with the remainder of the grid on the standard soft SC0 tyre (option B).

In the World Supersport category, almost all the riders relied on the standard soft SC0 solution (option A) for the rear and the standard soft SC1 solution (option A) for the front.
