Russians used their bank cards to pay for over 1.5 billion trips on public transport over the 10 months of 2021, twice as many as in the same period last year.

Dmitry Malykh, director of the Acquiring Division, Sberbank:

"Non-cash methods of payment for transport are accepted almost everywhere in Russia. Non-cash payments via Sber are available on transport in 147 cities with a population of over 100,000. Social trips are also converting to bank cards. Sberbank, in collaboration with its partners, including Settlement Solutions and SberTroika, is developing technology that facilitates contactless fare payments in Russia's regions."

The solution is unique in that you can pay for your trip in absolutely any way: with a travel, social, or bank card, a smartphone, smart watch, or bracelet - that is, using any NFC-compatible device to which you can link a bank card.

Sber, in conjunction with Visa, Settlement Solutions, SberTroika, and SberLeasing, offers solutions for the efficient management of passenger transport.

Mikhail Kazakov, CEO, Settlement Solutions:

"Together with Sberbank, we use our own expertise as much as possible to create and implement payment services on public transport with a view to digitalizing the industry and improving the quality of passenger transport services. Our main goal is to improve citizens' quality of life, as well as making public transport more accessible. The new technology enables regional authorities to better manage, monitor, and save budget funds."
