According to the early estimates of the rating agency Expert RA, Sber Asset Management companies maintained their number one position with the biggest size of assets under management among Russian asset management companies in 2021. In 4Q21, the metric added 4.6% to reach RUB 1.56 tn.

This means that the Russian discretionary asset management market has passed a record milestone of RUB 1.5 tn for the first time. Previously, Sber Asset Management companies were the first in the country to surpass the mark of RUB 1 tn under management in late 2019.

Interestingly, the overwhelming majority of management companies posted a decrease in assets under management, while Sber Asset Management companies were among the few whose assets increased. Retail investors remain the main growth driver, with their funds under management continuing to show double-digit growth.

The overall increase in the market for discretionary asset management and collective investments amounted to RUB 10.5 tn [1] in 2021. The increase was due to the continued high interest of retail investors in investment instruments in general and products of Sber Asset Management in particular, despite the higher volatility of stock markets in the fourth quarter.

Evgeny Zaitsev, CEO, Sber Asset Management:

"According to the fourth quarter results, only few management companies showed an increase in the value of net assets. As for Sber Asset Management, not only did it hold on to its leadership position, but it also strengthened its advantage over its main competitors in the asset management market. I would like to mention growth in the number of customers and the size of assets in all segments. We have done a great job to make our products even closer to our customers, both in terms of accessibility and understanding. Last year, we made customer transactions several times quicker when it came to discretionary asset management and shares in mutual funds. We also unveil yield scenarios for all our products, thus improving customers' understanding of their prospects and making it easier to compare the products. We understand that the vogue for investing is not the only thing driving retail investors - they also choose convenient and transparent solutions."

Sber Asset Management is a leader in the retail segment of the discretionary asset management market. The company holds the lead in the Moscow Exchange ranking in terms of the number of open PIAs among all management companies with 299,000 PIAs as of January 1, 2022. Private investors open about 57% of all PIAs with discretionary asset management strategies at Sber Asset Management. According to Investfunds, Sber Asset Management owns the largest share in the segment of mutual funds (ETF and open-ended), which stands at 25.2%, while in the ETF segment, the company's share is 38.72%.
