Children and teenagers from 80 countries are participating in the Artificial Intelligence International Junior Contest (AIIJC) jointly organized by Sber and the Artificial Intelligence Alliance. Russia, India, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Bangladesh currently have the most participants registered. Countries as far away from Russia as the Philippines, Canada, Ecuador, and more applied for the competition.

The main stage of the competition is currently ongoing: the participants form teams, select one of ten domains, and begin solving the problems. Considering the level of interest in the competition, the organizers decided to extend registration and the qualifying round until July 31, 2021, and the team stage until September 6, 2021. The best teams from each track will meet in Moscow for the final, where they will compete for the top prize of RUB 1 mn in each category.

In the team round, the participants will have to solve problems from the most relevant areas in AI tech development: driverless transport, inclusive environments, customer service, medicine, neuroscience, natural language processing, education, recruitment, and robotics. The participants can also try their hands at solving this round's most complex task on creative industries. The prize for this category has been raised to RUB 4 mn.

The tasks for the competition were developed by Sber units and ecosystem companies, leaders in the application of AI tech in their industries. The problems represent real challenges that tech-based businesses face today. 2GIS, Citymobil, Rabota.ru, Sbermed.ai, SberDevices, Sber's robotics, neuroscience and behavioral science, and VR and AR labs, SberEducation, SberAI, and many others participated in the development of tasks for the competition.

It is wonderful that students from schools around the world are participating in our international contest. This once again demonstrates that interest in AI tech is universal and that children want to study, try their hand, and grow in this area.

We have prolonged the qualifying and main rounds of the competition in order to give everyone who wants to join the chance to register, form a team, participate in additional educational activities, and start working on the thematic problems. We are very grateful to our partners and colleagues who have developed truly interesting tasks and are sharing their knowledge with the participants. I wish all the teams that have already determined the theme they will be working on good luck and hope that they successfully pass this important round of the competition and can join us in Moscow for the final.
